About the event

Prudence Stoddard lives in the 18th century and has been hired by the Reverend Jacob as his housekeeper at Sigginstown Castle. Prudence will be your hostess for “An 18th Century Tea Journey” in the Big House. She is stuck mostly in the 18th century, in character and costume, but welcomes guests for tea from the 21st century to Sigginstown Castle.

This experience is big on history, fun and participation. It tells the story of how tea arrived in Ireland, Britain and the Colonies and evolved into the popular beverage today. Ireland drinks more tea per capita than any other country, and you will learn how this came to be. You will practice a Chinese tea ceremony and learn to read your own tea leaves. Beverages provided will be black and green teas available in the period, plus generous helpings of delicious bread and butter - what they ate with tea in the 18th century!

This open experience tea journey is from 11:30 am - 1 pm, and allows time to join a tour of the castle at 1:30 pm. The journey requires a minimum of 8 people to occur. So please gather your friends and relations to ensure your event will happen!

If you would like a private event for groups of 8 or more on other dates, please contact us to book. Cost is €20 per person including VAT plus a small credit card booking fee.
