Intro to Blackwork Embroidery with Jazmine

This workshop is an introduction to historical blackwork embroidery. It is a technique dating back to at least the 16th century, and was a common way to embellish clothing, cuffs, ruffs, smocks and pouches. Blackwork is simple enough in designs: black thread on a white linen (usually) background so it stands out clearly.

Jazmine Carroll has visited Sigginstown Castle many times to help with our projects and she has been inspired by the artwork here to create small embroidery pieces. She will provide a small sample for you to embroider and show you the various stitches that can be used.

Workshop runs from 1:30 to 4:30 and is three hours in length. Cost of €35 includes materials you can take home to finish or use again, and a tea/coffee and cake break. You can take an optional tour (separate ticket) at 12:30 p.m. and see many of the paintings and…
