About the event
Bring out your inner sailor and spend some time in the 16th century tower listening to music by candlelight. Join us as we teach some sea shanties, play music and tell stories about the sea. Let's make a joyful noise together! We hope our visitors will chant along, offer up a story or song, and musicians are welcome (smallish instruments only).
No pressure to join in, but anyone can sing (or chant) the chorus of a sea-shanty so we hope to inspire you to participate!
Music is from all over the world, and across multiple centuries- we are neither time nor place-bound in this event, simply inspired by water and the sea-faring travels of mankind through the ages. You might hear a story about Wexford shoals, Pirates on the south coast of Ireland in 1610, St. Brendans Voyage or the Banana Boat Song!
All events take place from 8-10 p.m. This event takes place in the 16th century Tower vault.Â
Beverages in tankards and nibbles will  be provided so you can whet your whistle!
Make a day or evening of it! Come for a late tour (3:30-5 pm - get a discount combo ticket) and have dinner beforehand at Meylers Millhouse bar, only 1 mile down the road.
